A synesthetic exploration
In my Intermediate Exam, I deepened and continued my research about the visual and auditive perception of the human being. How are those senses perceived, and is there any interaction, any influence the one can have on the other? Why do patterns fit well with rhythmic music, and are we all synaesthetes?
The theoretical research and project documentation are avaible in german and can be downloaded here
To implement the theoretical knowledge I aquired in my research into creative work, I conceptualized a Visual Music installation, interpreting a musical piece into visual stimuli by linking prepared loops directly with the auditive loops. The softwares Ableton and Resolume are linked, so that the synchronicity is mostly guaranteed.
The different sound-tracks in the composition are distributed on different rings, levitating in the space. Each sound has an own corresponding pattern, and the visuals create a mandala-like composition, matching and enhancing the musical composition. The result is not just a visual accompanying of the music, but a holistic experience, where sound, music and also vibrations enhance each other.
This technique of linking the softwares also allows a VJ/DJ to improvise at each performance, without losing the advantage of visuals perfectly matching his sound-set.
